Chelsea Manhattan,
New York 2002.   The Owners requested
a steel stair for connecting two existing apartments on the14th and 15th floors
into one unit. The stairs needed to be designed taking into consideration the
physical restriciton of the building's elevators and stairs. The pin connection
of the stair stringer and mechanically attached handrails allowed for shop fabrication,
and eliminated excessive welding in the field. Determining the stair opening
in between two existing steel floor beams was important to reduce structural
modification, cost and time limitations, all the while maintaining the most
flexibility and usablitly of the rooms on each floor.
